Solution #3

Oscar's other solution focused more on the user experience and how the IdeaTorrent could be presented in a more appealing manner, preferably using a special terminal located at different places around Arlanda. The greeting character on the right should be a representative from Arlanda Airport sporting a welcoming smile. The short but important message from the representative is "Do you have an idea/proposition?".

Keeping it simple and short allows for a broader input spectrum than if it was to say something about complaints or other negative feedback. Once a user has send their input there should be an animation sending the input as a envelope to the Idea Cloud. Important or highly rated suggestions should be larger than the others, preferably with bright white colour and the not so popular ideas in a shade of gray.

This solution would be better than Oscar's other solutions and the current system because easy of use and a more welcoming default screen. The syste

Oscar's other design included a blob design with bouncy features and connected dots as answers. A colour scheme should indicate importance/popularity and the usual icons for adding ideas and/or solutions should be used. The use of tags is used in both the best solution and this, allthough more emphasized in this one.

Solution 2#

Björns has focused on only showing relevant information on AIT. There has also been added a help textbar on the left that provides the user with information that is relevant for the actual task. If this should not be enough, there is also a help page added to the main header. The language support has also been modiefied with an english version. The icons used are the countries flags.

Björns redesign should be easier for the user to understand. It is designed with regards to simplicity and guiding the user through the process, via helptexts. This should also improve the usability and the effectivness of the system.

Solution 1#

In this idea torrent, there are several functions to be provided:

Basic features:
1.Submit ideas:
In the left part of the website, you can see submit your idea here where you can click and submit your idea by anonymous.

In submit page, you can write the title and content for your idea. You can also hand in pictures of your idea sketch via this system. When you hand in your solution with your ID, you can choose public it or save it as a draft in your idea box for later modification. You can choose allow comment or not.

When you hand in your idea, you can choose hand in with your ID or anonymous. Hand in with anonymous especially used by passengers who don’t use this system very often. These passengers mostly are business man and for they don’t use this system very often, they don’t wanna login. So handing in solution with anonymous will be convenient for them.

On the other hand, there are a number of users who are interested in airport construction or maybe work in related area. Thus they always visit similar websites to see if there are any awesome ideas which can inspire them.

For these people, they prefer to login and restore their user profiles. And when they hand in the solution, they always prefer using their ID, so that they can keep in touch with others more easily. Despite of handing in solutions, they can save their solutions as a draft in their own idea box.

2.Popular Ideas
you can check the most popular ideas in this part. I add the pull-down menu in this part which you can select to search the most popular ideas with 30 days/10 days/5 days/24 hours etc.
In this part, you can view others ideas, reply them and vote them.

3.Idea in Development
Ideas which are in development are listed here for users to revise them. The owner of the idea can be easily contacted via this system.

4.Implemented Ideas
Ideas which have already been implemented are listed here. Some of these ideas come from the forum, some ideas may come from other airport idea torrents.

5.Multi-language support
The system provides two languages , which are Swedish and English.

You can search ideas using in-site search engineer. You can choose search in whole site or in a particular scope such as search in most popular ideas/idea in development/Idea be implemented etc. from the pull-down menu.

When you enter the search button, there will pop up another window showing the searching result.

My ideas: users can edit, submit their ideas here.Users can track their idea status, total voting cast as well as comments.

My favourites : list the ideas which users marked as most concerned.

Ideas which I involved: list the ideas which users once added the comments on or voted on.

Messages:users can easily send message to each others by using this tool.

9.User profile:
In this part, you can edit your personal information. The airport staffs and users who are fancy on your ideas may contact you via these information. Sure enough, you can choose to save your personal information as privacy,in this case your information can not be seen from others.

What I wanna emphasis on this part is the system allow user register not only using a nickname but also their membership card.In this way,it is more easy and convenient for users to register. Furthermore, to encourage users to involve in the idea torrent more actively, there should be some excitation mechanism, such as users will get a chance to be add bonus to their membership card which can be used to exchange mileage according to their performance in the idea torrent.

10.News
In this part, users can read recent news regarding on airport construction.Some of these news may happened in the Arlanda airport while others may happened in Frankfurt airport or Peking airport. By reading these news, users may gain some inspirations somehow.

11.Theme customized
To enhance the user experience and show user a fresh look now and then,the system will change the theme periodically. Now as you can see, the theme is called “Happy Easter”. The ideas are emitted from the broken eggs with sparks.

There are some amazing points for this solution.
Firstly, in this solution I provide different features for different types of users.For the users who do not use the idea torrent very often, the basic function can meet all their needs.They can submit their ideas, comment and vote on other ideas not only using their own IDs but by anonymous which can save users' time to some extent.

And advanced features are more popular used for those experienced users.

Secondly,I penetrate social media concept in my design. As you can see, this is an open innovation project and I tried to add several components to make the online massive collabration easier and more effectively.The ideabox is a good example.

Last but not least,I pay much more attention to improve user experience in the design. As a famous motto in website design:"Don't make your users think." Thus, I try to make the content as simple as possible.And I also pay attention to follow the existing website style and repect users peferences during the design. The clear content is quite easy for user to navigate and they won't get lost in the website.

Furthermore,like google, in my design, the theme of the website are changing periodically to give user a fresh look.Now the theme is "Happy easter."

Usability Goals

We formulate these usability goals based on our previous study, personas and task analysis as well as assumption.

Articulated usability goals can definitely streamline our following design and shorten our design lifecycle. Meanwhile, for we will provide several solutions in the end, it is really neccessary for us to set up some common task and goals in the very beginning.

Here are the Goals for our project:
•Simplicity
Rather than an entertainment site, the system is designed to provide a more effective and convenient way for users to propose suggestions about airport reconstruction. Thus the system should be as simple as possible.

•Effectiveness and utility
The idea torrent should provide an appreciate set of functions to enable users publish their ideas about the airport setting and upload their sketch.
The user comments should be orderly organized for other users’ review and staffs’ collection.

•Efficiency
The users can find out the information they required and hand in their solutions quickly.

•Easy to use
The system should be easy to manipulate without any confused for users.

•Memorability
The interface should help users to remember how interact with the system. After several times, users are supposed to use the system at ease without having consulted on-line help.

•Visibility and Consistency
For the idea torrent actually should become one part of the whole airport website in the end. We will not only focus on our system but also pay attention to keep consistency with the airport website.

•Follow establish web conventions
For respecting users' preference, the system should follow the conventions such as layouts and features from existing systems which users are accustomed to use.

•Error Recovery & Prevention
While using the system, a user can recover from an error by using only on-line help to resolve the problem.

Task Analysis and Assumption

Tasks:
We idetify the main tasks based on our previous study.

The system should provide the following tasks, such as:
•User login/logoff
•User profile
•Search: for user to search a certain idea
•User can look up and comment on other users suggestions as well as vote on them using their IDs or anonymous
•User can propose his own suggestion
•Picture upload: The system should provide picture upload feature which can be used to draw up sketch for users
•Multi-language support: for the users will come from the world, the system should be provided at least two languages. One is English, the other one is local language
•Help

Assumptions:(What we need to improve in our design)
The old system has some functions already installed that work well. However there are issues with other parts.
1. Already implemented and work well
The view ideas function works well in the old system. It has a nice overview and is easy to understand. The use of the desktop metaphor is useful.
2. Been implemented but need to be improved
The overall GUI is not very intuitative, the user gets confused and might avoid use the system.
3. Haven’t been implemented
The most important thing to be implement is the english version of the site. Since the system is used in an international airport, it is really important not to forget the english talking people, both passengers and employees.

User Profiles

First,We identified the users into three categories which are staffs in the airport, passengers, other people who work in relevant area or are interested in airport reconstruction.

Then, we come to set up personas.


1.Johan is 45 years old. He is married and has two children. Johan works at a company that manufactures plastic parts for the car industry. He is used to work with different internet platforms as well as mobile platforms. Johan has no fear of using new technology and believes that he is pretty updated and skilled in his field of expertise. He likes to try new systems and is prepared to learn the system even if it takes some time.


2.Lotta is 33 years old. She is single and works as store manager. Her computer skills apart from what is required at work is low because her lack of interest. Computers are a tool, nothing more to Lotta. If she would try a new system, it is necessary that it would be a simple and easy navigated system. The first visual impression is critical since Lotta feel inferior to what she does not know or recognize. She is also in need of some kind of walkthrough from the system.


3.Peter is 18 years old. He has just graduated from high school and is unemployed at the moment. Because of his great amount of free time, Peter surfs the web many hours daily. This makes him very experienced in online systems. He believes that he can single out a good system in a matter of seconds. If he feels that the system is bad designed and has not got enough features he will instantly drop the system.

Our project:Idea Torrent

Overview
Our project is Arlanda idea torrent redesign. The Arlanda idea torrent is considered as an open innovation software which people can submit their ideas, brainstorm them, and vote on them online. In this way, the most popular ideas and requests are then easily assessable.

Our development can be divided into four phases: User study and field study-->requirement-->design-->feedback and revise.

Our project began with the field study. We first analysis the existing arlanda torrent.

Then we compare it with other similar websites both from design and functions,which are:

Assignment 2

Task 1. Was chosen and submitted last week.

Task 2. To adress the problem with the chosen project, first of all the preparation phase has to looked at.

The main problem of the site is that it requires to many steps to submit an idea. Today it requires seven steps before the idea is submitted into the system. There are also other design matters that are confusing the users and direct their attention elsewhere, instead of the preferred task.

Now after realizing some of the problems, the incubation phase takes place...

Task 3. As a creativity method we used the change old patterns. In this step we concluded that a lot of issues could be resolved with the website when thinking about how we would like the site to behave instead of how it does it now.

Methods for handing in new post with pictures etc provided new patterns. Also, a Wikipedia-esque way of updating and revising old post was a new way of looking at things. Using tried methods in new systems.

Also, localization was something that needed a bit of reflection.
